Dueling

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!

Jon and I have been training together for the upcoming Oceanfront Marathon and we have begun our friendly competition on the local road-race scene. After my 3rd place finish at the Turkey Trot, I was looking for some redemption.

We competed in the Christmas Fun Run 10k on Saturday morning over in Kanha... not to be confused with Kahana... which I did. We registered for free because we are both members of the VIRR now...free is always good. AND there was a potluck afterwards!! PheNom-Nomenal!!

This race was started very much like the other race. 5k started lined up facing one direction and the 10k in the other. The starter said "Ok...on 3. 1....2.............3!" and everyone just ran in their directions and hoped the cones had been put out for the turn around! haha Gotta love maui.

Jon and I took off and were cruising along chatting a little bit but then when we turned around the cone we got hit with a heavy wind and then 2 miles later some stinging rain. But what's a race without a little challenge?! I got an advantage when Jon slowed down to see if the cones we were passing were the turn-around but he was on my heels right away. We turned at the 4mile mark and then I tried to push harder. Seemed to work and I took home the victory this time! 1-1 Jon!! Watch yourself!

When I told him I was writing this blog entry he said "Oh...you mean you're writing about how you got lucky?"...yup. Old man.

Other than that... I'm now food-running at Maui Brewing Co. and the busy season is going to kick in this weekend! Going to be exciting! I'm a little bummed I won't have the family around for xmas this year but after talking with Lauren today I figure... this is just a DIFFERENT kind of christmas this year! Always exciting to try new things! Maybe we'll have an adventure!

Now Jon and I are going to go get a McFlurry down the hill because we just got back from a nice long run up in the Pineapple fields... beautiful sunset over the ocean from up in the mountains!
