Flash after Flash

Well let me start this post by stating how in the last 24hours I've seen more boobies than I could have ever thought possible in public. Mardi Gras has been kicking into gear down here (nice rhyme) and we caught our first parade of the season last night. It's called the Krewe de Vieux and it was far from family oriented. From the penis floats to the political caricatures, the spectacle was in full force.
Afterward, my friend Leroy and I hit the streets walking up and down catching beads from the people on the balconies while the dirty old men and frat boys tugged on their shirts to entice girls to flash their goods for some cheap plastic mementos.
Granted, I enjoyed the night, but what a trashy street Burbon is... Imagine the basement floor of Libby's after a sloppy saturday night times a couple of decades worth the beer, puke, and who knows what else.

On the work front, I led my group of 10 catholic school boys for the majority of the week. On Friday, their last day, the volunteer coordinators must have decided to reward the little hellions with a dad and his two teenage daughters. Needless to say, not much work was done in any room where the girls were not. Then yesterday I worked with a group of 10 or so high schoolers. Half the group was from NOLA and the other half were from South Africa! The school was doing an exchange program where the South Africans were spending a few weeks here and then vice versa. They were great! Everything they did was very well done and the accents were phenomenal. I could have sat and listened to them talk all day! Most of them had gone to the World Cup too!! So cool!! I should have them send me a vu vu zela.
I talked to the teacher quite a bit about different opportunities in the teaching profession and he said his girlfriend is working with americorps state right now tutoring and whatnot. I'm not too keen on the idea of another stint with AmeriCorps though. The teacher was impressed by my teaching skills and gregariousness that he said if I ever want a tour of the city and/or a place to stay when I come back to NOLA to give him a call! The other half of the students volunteering that day were in another house and did not have a great experience and the teacher told my group not to rub it in how awesome our day went! Very successful!
