I'm sure the majority of those who used to check my blog on occasion have long since given up. But have no fear! I'm alive!!
As of now I am back in New Orleans, or close to (in Chalmette,LA). We are working with the St. Bernard Project rebuilding homes. I'm super excited because I got the Site Supervisor position. This means I will be leading volunteers at a house on my own!

SBP is a pretty amazing non-profit. It was started by a Zach Rosenburg and Liz McCartney (a lawyer and a teacher) and has been one of the most successful groups rebuilding the St Bernard parish that was left 100% uninhabitable after the storms of 2005. The next few weeks we will be getting trained in everything from flooring to drywall to roofing and tool use. By the end of this I should be damn near professional!! Now if only they could learn me how to quit procrastinating in everything life related... woof.
The house we're staying in is a little suburban home with high ceilings and small bedrooms. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Jonathan and I are the only dudes on the team so he and I are cozied up in the back room. We've been watching Band of Brothers each night before bed which has been great.
Delta 5 is down here working with SBP as well so it has been great to have more people to interact with than the same 9 as always. We went down to Frenchmen St last night and bar hopped for a little while. Each place had amazing live music and an even better atmosphere. We ended the night at a bar called DPA where we watched a popular brass band called Soul Rebels! They blew the roof off that joint. It was a hot, sweaty, dance filled night and we all had a blast. Caught a cab ride back and crashed around 3am.
This morning I snapped awake, downed some water, and Jonathan, Beth and I jumped in the van and went to City Park. I've missed City Park so much!! It's a great place to go for a run. It was blue skies and 65 degrees or so... perfect day! The run itself was... meh. I'm a little out of shape...
All in all, it's been a great start to our 10week stint down here in the Big Easy!! I can't wait for Mardi Gras!!
